Joseph Rushmore (b. 1984) is a documentary photographer based in Austin, Texas. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in the small town of Ada, Oklahoma. He grew up deep within the evangelical church, resulting in a lifelong pursuit to understand the apocalyptic worldview inherent within it. He began making photographs in 1999 as a teenager intent on documenting his personal life and the rural landscape in which he lived. For years he photographed and created other forms of art while working various manual labor jobs across Texas and Oklahoma and in 2016 he turned towards documentary photography.

All of his projects share photographs made throughout his life and all of his work overlaps visually and in intent in order to create a deeper more personal and singular worldview. He focuses on extremism, religion, life in middle America and political upheaval while exploring the blurred lines between documentary and the surreal. In 2021 he received a scholarship to take part in the Magnum Longterm Mentorship Program with Matt Black and Susan Meiselas and in 2023 he was a finalist winner of the Aftermath Project Grant.
